Our newest resident cage has
now been christened the Goshawk cage. It took us a little while to
get this one completed, but has you can see was worth the wait. Now
we just have to find the perfect resident for it. Hopefully a
Goshawk. (Spring 2005-Fall 2007)
Laying out the ground work with
the help of Grant, one of our construction volunteers.
The
roof starts going up. This cage we have decided will have a partial
roof to allow for a less closed in feel.
The
framing has begun. Before long the sides will be up.

One side is just about
completed and ready for painting. Parts of the roof will also be extended
over the path to allow for drier viewing when groups go out in the rain.
The back of the cage even though visitors don't see it, is just as
important to the staff.

Robeta
Gast is one of our volunteers with special attachment to this cage.
Through the memorial of her husband this cage was made possible. Her
staining help add some color to this cage.
One of our summer interns help paint the background to this cage. We
would like to get a Goshawk which are found in Coniferous forest.
The background was painted to look like this. Other volunteers will
help finish it by adding some depth perception and give you the idea of
being in the trees at the bird's height.
Dedication
for this cage happened on Nov. 9, 2007. Roberta Gast, her daughter
and husband and Roberta's neighbors, who started the memorial, were present. The picture
Roberta holds is one of her, her late husband Frank and their four
children when they were young. Roberta help with the finishing
touches of the cage by touching up the "evergreens".
