Merlin Enclosure

During the
summer of 2008 we acquired a female American Kestrel as a patient, but
due to an eye injure she is non-releasable. It was decided by
staff to add her to our residents' trail and hopefully one day to our
educational programs. Due to the fact that we currently have a
non-flighted female Merlin in our Kestrel cage there was a need to
construct a new enclosure for her. (The kestrel is flighted and
will need the larger enclosure.) Take a look at the pictures below
to see the progress.
Part of
the fence is taken down to make space for the new cage. Ground is
flatten and wire mesh is laid down for predator proofing. The
corner metal poles are cemented in and you can start to see the shape.

With framing and sliding going up it is starting to look like the
home it will become for our Merlin. Pictures below show Bart, our
Director of Education, but with winter setting in work is put on hold
until spring.
